Question first appeared on December 21, 2003
Some of our parishioners may not understand about dropping communion into our mouths.  Could you please address this again or put it in the bulletin?  Thank you!

As plainly stated before, there is no “right” or “wrong” way (open mouth or closing mouth) to receive Holy Communion by means of a spoon held by the priest or deacon.  There is only the preference of the priest or deacon who is doing the distributing.

I prefer that adults and older children, who have been taught and are able, tilt their head back, open their mouth wide and allow the priest/deacon to drop the particle of communion into it.

However, I am not going to rebuke those children or adults who close their mouths on the spoon.
