Why
is the archdiocese=s
bi-annual meeting called a convention instead of a conference?
The word conference sounds more church-like.
There
is no compelling reason other than a historical one.
They were called Aconventions@ early on and this year=s is the 45th. These
meetings of our archdiocese were held annually through 1979 when it was voted
to begin a bi-annual schedule.
Our
regional meetings have been renamed Parish Life AConferences@ for some time now. Maybe a
similar term that is more Achurch-like@
could be suggested by our delegation to the Archdiocese General Assembly this
year. Should you think of a good
alternative to Aconvention,@ let us know.
