Question first appeared on December 30, 2001
How should I dispose of old blessed flowers that I receive in church?  I don=t have a fireplace.  I was also wondering about how to handle old blessed palm branches, holy water, holy oil, and swabs.

As you imply, if one has a fireplace it is best to burn blessed flowers, palms and cotton swabs.  The ashes are then gathered and buried in an area that has no foot traffic, such as a flower bed against the edge of your house.

If you have no fireplace in your home, these solid items can still be burned in a inflammable container, such as a ceramic pot, out of doors, and the ashes dispersed as above.

Holy water and oil can be poured directly to ground, again in an area that will have no traffic.  The containers can then be washed and the collected water poured to ground in the same area.
